Shrimple

A tiny pixel-art shrimp that lives in your Windows system tray and reminds you to sit up straight. No sounds, no pop-ups, just a shrimp.

The shrimp zoomed in from the Windows system tray, beside six of its moods: craning, slumped, hunched, curled, on fire and furious.
The real tray-icon frames, from the project’s README art.

Shrimple puts a 16×16 shrimp in its own little patch of sea in your system tray. When it’s time to check your posture, the shrimp starts slouching, probably the way you are. Ignore it and it curls up, the seaweed wilts, and eventually the water boils orange and the shrimp turns furious and hops in place. Sit up, click it, and it calms down and starts the countdown again.

Reminders are every 5 minutes to 1½ hours from the right-click menu. The timer resets on its own when you’ve clearly stepped away: after 5 minutes without input, on unlock, and on wake from sleep. It ships as a single shrimple.exe, built and released by GitHub Actions on every version tag.

Highlights

  • All the pixel art is ASCII in the source, drawn into the tray icon at runtime
  • Seven moods, from calm to furious, driven by how long you’ve ignored it
  • Native Win32 tray icon, menu and timer, with settings in the registry
  • A preview example renders every mood on light and dark taskbars on any OS
